A WEEK OF ACTIVATIONS:
This week, Mars plays a significant role as it conjoins both Eris and Chiron, reactivating the effects of their alignment. The Chiron-Eris conjunction was exact for the third and final time on March 19—but with the two planetary objects still traveling within close proximity of each other, their joint influence is still alive in our individual and collective experience.
As Mars triggers this planetary duo, we can expect that controversies (Eris) will be aggravated and that yet another layer of uncomfortable truths and unhealed wounds (Chiron) will be revealed. With the alignment occurring in Aries, one of its goals is to ensure that we no longer ignore the traumas that have been and continue to be inflicted by the unevolved, unconscious ego. People are likely to be moody, emotional, reactive, and defensive as Mars reactivates these energies.
While we are still learning about Eris, which was discovered only 20 years ago, the dwarf planet appears to play a significant role in exposing the abuse of women. In 2016-17, when Eris aligned with liberating Uranus, the #MeToo movement gained momentum as women around the world raised their voices to demand justice after having endured harassment and assault. In 2025-26, as Eris has traveled side-by-side with Wounded Healer Chiron, a global network that has abused and traumatized females (and others) has been revealed.
Since the higher purposes of the Chiron-Eris conjunction include revealing hidden motives and painful traumas, we may feel upset and angry at times this week. However, we benefit from remembering that the first and necessary step of any healing process is to uncover the wound. And, with proactive, self-assertive Mars involved, we may also see individuals courageously come forward to advocate for themselves or for others. (It is interesting to note that Mars will be exactly conjunct Eris this Tuesday, when survivors of abuse are scheduled to testify at a public hearing for the first time.)
NEW MOON IN TAURUS:
A new lunar cycle begins at 1:00 p.m. PDT on Saturday, May 16, when the Sun and the Moon rendezvous at 25°57' Taurus. This is a highly significant New Moon, strengthened by its close conjunctions with Ceres and Mercury in late Taurus, and also by its proximity to Uranus and Sedna in early Gemini.
The sign of the Bull is associated with stability, sustainability, our connection to nature, our capacity for self-reliance, and other practical concerns. With the New Moon tightly conjunct nurturing Ceres and also conjunct messenger Mercury, there may be news or communications regarding food sources, nutrition, the environment, and other tangibles that we rely upon.
At the same time, surprising insights, unexpected events, or sudden awakenings are possible due to the activation of Uranus and Sedna. Together, these two planets initiate a process of liberation, transformation, and breakthroughs. With their alignment occurring in Gemini, we are breaking free from limiting mindsets, letting go of old stories, and learning to speak our truth. The energies of the Uranus-Sedna conjunction are building throughout this month, leading up to their exact alignment on May 24.
THE ALGOL EFFECT:
Next Saturday's New Moon will also activate the fixed star Algol, which is currently at about 26°30´ Taurus. Algol is a binary star in the Perseid constellation. In ancient astrology, the star was seen as an omen of misfortune, destruction, chaos, and extreme events.
Most modern astrologers agree that Algol's activation often corresponds with intense, transformational times, when suppressed emotions rise to the surface and some encounter their own inner demons. The star is located in the part of the constellation that forms the head of Medusa, so figuratively we may see some people "losing their heads" or being incapacitated in some way.
However, there are some very positive modern interpretations of Algol/Medusa. Specifically, the star represents feminine strength when faced with patriarchal oppression and the ability to rise above victimization. Synchronistically, these same qualities are associated with dwarf planet Sedna, which is also in the spotlight at the New Moon and throughout the new lunar cycle.
