WOUNDED HEALER CHIRON: After a solid seven years in Aries, Chiron the Wounded Healer enters Taurus this week. From June 19 to September 19, when retrograde Chiron returns to Aries to wrap up its business in that sign, we will gain insights into what we can expect from the centaur's full immersion in the sign of the Bull. That journey will begin on April 14, 2027, and last for more than six years.
Chiron's task as it journeys through a sign is to help us become conscious of the wounds within us that remain unhealed. Oftentimes, that awareness only emerges when we encounter fears and insecurities related to the core wound.
As the centaur has made its way through self-assertive, masculine Aries, we have become very aware of how an immature, insecure ego can cause harm in the world. This has been especially apparent over the past 18 months, while Chiron has been conjunct Eris; many uncomfortable truths about the misuse of masculine force have been revealed during this time.
A CORE WOUND: In my perspective, Chiron represents a small, fearful child within us, one that acts out because it does not have the maturity nor the perspective to navigate situations that trigger its core issues. What we have seen during Chiron's transit of Aries is what happens when deep insecurities about one's own "right to be"—and a lack of knowing of one's true self—are not addressed and healed.
When in the sign of the Ram, Chiron's unhealed insecurities and fears manifest as willfulness, arrogance, aggression, and bullying. But, as always with the centaur, the wounds are revealed so that they might be healed.
CHIRON IN TAURUS: As Chiron travels through earthy Taurus in the years ahead, the fears that will arise to be healed have to do with physical and financial resources, body image, and the well-being of the natural environment. The underlying wound of Chiron in Taurus is one of lack; the fears manifest as feelings that "I'll never have enough," I'll never be worthwhile," or "I'll never be at peace." Symptoms of this wound including hoarding behaviors, eating disorders, food insecurity, a lack of self-worth, and issues in the natural environment.
When we review Chiron's past journey through Taurus, which occurred from 1976 to 1984, we see how these fears of lack were exposed—but also how healing was initiated. In the late 1970s, while there was a rise in eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia, by the time we entered the 1980s, the disorders were finally recognized as "real" and were being diagnosed. Within a few short years, therapists began using cognitive-behavioral techniques to address the disorders and specialized treatment programs were implemented.
Also in the late 1970s, representing the need to heal our relationship with nature and the environment, Vietnam veterans began reporting severe illnesses related to their exposure to the toxic herbicide Agent Orange. As a result, the Veterans Administration began recognizing the issue and affected veterans won $180 million in a class action lawsuit.
In 1978, severe health issues experienced by residents of Love Canal, New York, ultimately revealed that the community had been built on top of an abandoned chemical waste dump. In 1979, the nuclear reactor at Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania had a partial meltdown. The steps in the healing process, promised by Chiron, included the rising of grassroots movements and protests, new regulations regarding the disposal and cleanup of hazardous wastes, legal battles over environmental protections, and the rise of the anti-nuclear movement.
The late 1970s also saw years of high inflation, which escalated into the Farm Financial Crisis of the early 1980s. In response, the healing potentials of Chiron in Taurus manifested through Farm Aid Concerts, the Food Security Act, and federal policy reforms to support the farming economy.
While we might wish that these situations had never occurred, it is important to realize that each revealed an existing wound that had been hidden, but needed to be seen in order to be healed. That is the task of Chiron.
