Memory is not fixed; it shifts with every recollection, shaped by the person we are becoming rather than the person we were. When we carry failure as identity, we rehearse defeat. But when we understand that "that was then; this is now," we free ourselves to build new habits, make different choices, and gradually transform our relationship with the past. Healing is not about rewriting history—it's about deciding, here and now, who we choose to be.
 
The focus for today is:
That was then; this is now. The past is gone. We're choosing the future we want and creating it, one smart choice at a time.

Gary shares a powerful truth: we cannot change what happened, but we can change what we do about it. In one memorable story, his son Marshall wouldn't speak to him after his return from rehab. Rather than trying to say the right words, Gary simply picked up pizza from their favorite Italian place every Friday night—and kept his word. It took a year, but through consistent, humble action rather than grand gestures, their relationship healed.
